Rārangi Volunteer Fire Brigade – Supporting Our Community

The Rārangi Volunteer Fire Brigade has been an integral part of the Rārangi community since its establishment in 1960. As a rural volunteer fire station, our members generously give their time to support and connect with the people who live, work and play in and around Rārangi — not just in emergencies, but all year round.

Community Engagement and Events

We are proud to be more than just a local emergency response team — we are active contributors to the wellbeing and spirit of our community. Some of the ways we engage and support Rārangi residents include:

Local Events and Fundraising

• Lolly Run – Joining in this much-loved annual tradition for local families.
• People Bank – Supporting food and essentials donations for locals.
• Local Projects – Pitching in to maintain useful infrastructure around the community.
• Everest & Sky Tower Challenges – Rārangi firefighters take part in these major fundraising climbs, supporting Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand and contributing to the nationwide firefighter fundraising effort each year.
• Tuamarina School Activities – Participating in school events and supporting local tamariki.

Youth and Community Development

• Youth in Emergency Services Programme – Encouraging young people to learn about teamwork, volunteering, and emergency services.
• Supporting RDRA-run Events – Helping out at community events organised by the Residents Association.
• Postbox Decoration Competition – Judging and participating in creative community celebrations.

Community Spaces and Support

• Providing the fire station hall free of charge to community groups for meetings, gatherings and local initiatives.
• Working alongside groups such as the RDRA, Menz Shed and local volunteers on community improvements, including upgraded outdoor spaces, native gardens, and accessibility projects beside the hall.

Open Days and Community Connection

Each year we hold open days at the fire station, giving locals the opportunity to:
• Meet our volunteer firefighters
• Explore the appliances and equipment
• Learn home fire safety tips
• Ask questions about what we do
• Discover what’s involved in volunteering

These events are always popular with families and are a great way to build connection within the community.
